Arcadia
Directed by Ted Hoerl
Hailed as “the perfect marriage of ideas and high comedy” (The Times), the plot of ARCADIA swings between the early 19th century and the present day to explore the relationship between order and chaos. Delightful, richly drawn characters from both time periods enter and exit the same room of a country house in Derbyshire, England, and current trappings end up mixing with accoutrements of the past. Mathematical theory, natural history, and Lord Byron all figure in this story of the disruptive influence of sex on our life orbits – referred to in the play as “the attraction that Newton left out.” Sparkling dialogue and unexpected plot twists spur on ARCADIA’s characters – both past and present – in their quest to find order in life’s never-ending parade of seemingly random events.
Promethean Theatre Ensemble (PTE) mounts an absolutely masterful production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia.

Highly Recommended… [I]t is certainly the best I have seen this season.

From Hoerl’s faithful direction, to Hagan’s perfect set and lighting, to Carrie Campana’s costume design and Rachel Watson’s props, to Tabor’s lovely conveyance of innocent genius, to Woolsey’s wit and charm, to West’s braggadocio, to Hutt’s clear insights, to De Lay’s allure, to Feagin’s pitch-perfect skepticism, to Smith’s smart flirtations, they get Arcadia just right. And that’s no small accomplishment.

Feagin is a biting Hannah, with eyes that burn holes in her opponents.
